If you find Dubai airport far too busy these day then consider this: the airport has just retained its title as the world’s busiest international airport, leaving London’s Heathrow trailing in its wake once again.
In 2016, DXB served 83.6 million passengers and while that’s less than the 85 million that airport authorities hoped for, it’s still an average of almost 7 million passengers per month – the size of a big city – certainly much bigger than Dubai itself! Heathrow, meanwhile, handled 75.7 million passengers.
In a statement, Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said authorities hope to see 89 million passengers in 2017. The airport is closing the gap on Atlanta and Beijing as the busiest airport overall.
