ARRIVAL

We arrived at the hotel at 5pm, warmly greeted by our butler for the suite. He took us straight through the understated, yet impressive, reception area with water feature at the far end. The reception area has two impressive floral installations and in the left hand side a beautiful paper carving from a Fairmont guestbook. Our check in was performed in the comfort of our suite. Our bags arrived very quickly and our butler gave us a great overview of the room.

ACCOMMODATION

Our suite was on the Gold Level, which is the Fairmont Executive branding. The suite consisted of a well appointed lounge area; complete with large screen TV and Bose sound system. A desk area and dining table complete with space for 6 diners was prepared with beautiful lillies, Arabic sweets and two bottles of Voss water. The manager of the hotel had also kindly provided us with two complimentary massage vouchers and a personal welcome card. On the side board there was a Nespresso machine with cartridges, complimentary water, a selection of teas and a well stocked mini bar. A full range of crockery and glassware was also provided.

To each side of the lounge area were located a small kitchen and guest bathroom, complete with fridge and drinks refrigerator. The style of all materials is modern Arabic and all finishes were of excellent quality.

There is a large balcony stretching the length of the lounge area which offers panoramic views of the city and down to the pool and beach area. Comfortable chairs and dining set were located at each end of the balcony.

Through to the bedroom, complete with beautiful king bed and a selection of pillows. There was also another flat screen TV, with fast interface and wide channel selection, and a powerful hair drier. The bedroom also had a private balcony.

The bedroom led through the spacious walk in closet (complete with iron, board and clothes brush) to the bathroom. The bathroom was equipped with a powerful shower, with detachable head and rain head to the ceiling. The bath tub was generous and deep, with loofa and salts provided. There was a single sink, and a display of the Rose 31 toiletries. These included shampoo, conditioner, body cream, mouthwash, comb, toothbrush, vanity and nail items. A glass door led to a toilet and bidet. The water temperature and pressure was consistent throughout the stay.

A turndown service was provided each night including replenishment of towels, drinking water and toiletries as well as a tidy of all room areas. A nice touch was a card with a Dubai factoid and temperature expectation for tomorrow. Those who are expecting a chocolate on the pillow will be left wanting at this establishment though.

WIFI is free on the Gold floor and a strong signal was present throughout the room and public areas – including the pools. The speed was excellent at all times. If you are not staying in a Gold room then joining the hotels loyalty scheme will enable you to save 100dhs per night.

Our butler offered an excellent level of service including complimentary unpacking, packing, pressing and concierge services.

FACILITIES

The show stopper in Fairmont, The Palm Jumeirah was the Gold Lounge. A large and spacious lounge consisting of a reception area, lounge with terrace and TV, restaurant and bar area and business centre. Breakfast is a more civil affair in here compared to the hustle and bustle of the Flow Kitchen main restaurant. A large selection of continental, bakery, hot items and juices are in addition to a comprehensive egg menu; including an excellent eggs benedict. A children’s area is also provided with pancakes, waffles, sweets and doughnuts.

During the day soft drinks and coffees are provided. At 6pm-8pm (hours may differ during Ramadan) the Golden Hour offers an excellent selection of canapés and complimentary alcoholic drinks. The staff were excellent and went beyond offering a huge selection of cocktails, regularly topping up drinks and providing flawless table service. This really was the highlight of our experience.

Other facilities used were the extensive spa. The segregated relaxation areas are well designed with many shower types, a large sauna, steam room, ice bucket and a wide range of products to use. Through the wet areas there was a pre treatment lounge with TV, refreshment and beautiful decor. The treatments were of an excellent standard and the staff very pleasant, if a little informal.

There are four pool areas in the hotel. Two adult and two family. The family area also has a wet play area for children. The adult pools are beautiful, with relaxation beds in the pool and an infinity section with views over the city and beach. Loungers were easily found, including round double beds, but the areas were busy on the weekend (Friday and Saturday) due to many non-residents purchasing access. This did lead to extended service and wait times at peak times. Lifeguards were on duty at all times. Food and drink service was slow at all times, but of good quality and temperature when delivered. A Gold room section of loungers around the pool would really add an additional level of value and ensure hotel residents are given priority.

The chauffeur service used was a latest generation BMW 5 series with a very courteous and gentle driver. RTA taxis were available at all times outside the hotel.
