As you curve away from the airport on the SZR road, the first landmark of the city immediately comes into sight. Two magnificent towers in a face off. The Jumeirah Emirates Towers have set the standard in business hotels here in Dubai. In recent years the rooms have become a little dated, with dark woods and tartan prints looking a little American and out of place in the city of style. Jumeirah have embarked on a refurbishment programme to correct this, and make JET the business travellers hotel of choice once again.
There is no denying that the lobby and impressive atrium have never dated, the cool and calmness really do make you feel welcome. There is usually a great buzz in the lobby lounge with coffee being slurped whilst business deals are done. That doesn’t mean you should write it off as a leisure hotel; the room rates are great and you get access to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel’s private beach, pools and of course access to one of the city’s best waterparks – Wild Wadi. There is no doubt you are part of the Jumeirah eco-system here. The pool area in the hotel is small, but rarely busy and you’re also given a welcome refreshment box. Contained within ice towels, Evian mist spray and iced water. A rarely found outdoor hot tub also completes the leisure area.
When you are complete with relaxing, your guest-room will be ready. The rooms all have spectacular views of cityscapes, with floor to ceiling windows. I always sleep with the drapes open, with a little nod to ‘Lost in Translation’. You can close these with a touch of a button, as well as control many other room features with a touch of a button on the tablet provided. The rooms have retained the quality feel, with modern touches and colour pallets introduced. The once loved marbled bathrooms remain, adding a touch of masculinity to the rooms defining it’s position as the centre of Dubai’s business district. Amenities remain generous, even compared to it’s Jumeirah sister hotels throughout the city. I still use my lanyard on a daily basis, and love the black sweatbands for use in the gym.
Once you have had a beautiful sleep in a comfortable bed, head down to one of the most comprehensive breakfasts in Dubai. With Voss water being generously sloshed about, a lavish egg station and huge array of baked goods from around the world, you’ll be ready to trade stocks or take on the forex markets after a feed here.
The executive lounge is suspended above the atrium, and visible from the towering glass lifts. This relaxing area was staffed with the same professional, attentive yet invisible staff. My glass was generously topped up with prosecco each night during the 2hr complimentary drinks and canapé period, and made a great space for working during the day. Wifi was doorstep to rooftop, fast and free making working easy and carefree.
